Well, yes, assuming I can figure out how to make it look as OSX-like as possible. No guarantees. Other than the glyph height / thickness issue, this should give you a pretty close OSX like appearance. Note that you'll need to set the mode to OSX2 in local.conf as well. Feel free to tweak and improve it:

Code: Select all
export INFINALITY_FT_FILTER_PARAMS="03 32 38 32 03"
export INFINALITY_FT_GRAYSCALE_FILTER_STRENGTH=35
export INFINALITY_FT_FRINGE_FILTER_STRENGTH=0
export INFINALITY_FT_AUTOHINT_HORIZONTAL_STEM_DARKEN_STRENGTH=10
export INFINALITY_FT_AUTOHINT_VERTICAL_STEM_DARKEN_STRENGTH=25
export INFINALITY_FT_WINDOWS_STYLE_SHARPENING_STRENGTH=0
export INFINALITY_FT_CHROMEOS_STYLE_SHARPENING_STRENGTH=0
export INFINALITY_FT_STEM_ALIGNMENT_STRENGTH=0
export INFINALITY_FT_STEM_FITTING_STRENGTH=0
export INFINALITY_FT_GAMMA_CORRECTION="1000 80"
export INFINALITY_FT_BRIGHTNESS="-20"
export INFINALITY_FT_CONTRAST="40"
export INFINALITY_FT_USE_VARIOUS_TWEAKS=true
export INFINALITY_FT_AUTOHINT_INCREASE_GLYPH_HEIGHTS=false
export INFINALITY_FT_AUTOHINT_SNAP_STEM_HEIGHT=0
export INFINALITY_FT_STEM_SNAPPING_SLIDING_SCALE=0
export INFINALITY_FT_USE_KNOWN_SETTINGS_ON_SELECTED_FONTS=false

I'll see if I can get past the height and thickness issues.

I've been messing with this for a couple hours, and I must say that whatever Apple is doing with fonts is bizarre. On some fonts, at smaller sizes, they are increasing heights. On other fonts, not so much. Bold fonts get the f@ck emboldened out of them, and others not. Inverse colors also get that crazy emboldening.

I can't believe anybody thinks these fonts look anywhere remotely "good". But, I'll continue to try to duplicate this look. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

:ugeek:

Well - I'd say what I really want is very bold fonts (that's possible with current Infinality) with unhinted fonts that look good (which is not possible).

I really thank you for your work :)

Thanks for that. I do want to make the unhinted stuff look good... that was part of what I was trying to do. The issues I'm trying to figure out are:

1. How Apple increases glyph height, because they do so very selectively, from what I can tell.
2. How Apple increases boldness, because they also do so very selectively, from what I can tell.
3. Freetype (at least with my patches) seems to cap unhinted glyphs on the top, making them less fuzzy than the bottoms of glyphs. I'm still trying to figure out what is causing this.
