Hi
As a fellow Font enthusiast I erm, ripped the new fonts from Windows 8 release preview image.wim and the new updated fonts from Office 2013, and I must say, even with the unmodified freetype (I'm using freetrype-tainted from Mageia 2) and just normal Auto hinter + RGB Sub-pixel hinting all the colour fringing is gone and they render much smoother.

Are they new fonts entirely? I haven't had a chance to experiment with Windows 8 yet.

Some are new, But most are updates of the common ones, all are dated 2012/2011 and higher "font" versions according to gnome-fontviewer maybe the unicode is expanded and hinting improved (tho courier new is still shit with out stem emboldening)

Interesting... I'd like to check them out. Do you have a link to the beta download?

Ok, so I've installed the Windows 8 fonts, and for the most part they seem similar to the Windows 7 fonts on my system. The biggest thing that stands out for me is that the "2" character looks totally different in all Segoe UI fonts, in a way I don't really care for (looks like Geneva '2').

I've been using the new segoe ui, it looks mostly the same to me except the numbers (which IMO look nicer now)

I only noticed a difference with Segoe fonts. Others seemed to look exactly the same to me, even though they may have had some tweaks here or there.
